National Day of Prayer

Greetings in the Name of Jesus,

Thursday, May 7th, Christians across our nation will join with one voice to recognize the 75th National Day of Prayer. As your pastor, I invite you to take at least a few moments to pray at the beginning of your day. The national theme is “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations”. Join me in praying specifically for our world, our nation, our community, and our church.

Our prayer chapel will be available from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for those who want to come to the church to pray. Please check in at the church office to visit the chapel. You can access a prayer guide at our National Day of Prayer webpage

There’s a story about Mother Teresa telling her superiors that she had five pennies and a dream from God to build an orphanage. Her superiors told her that she couldn’t build an orphanage, or anything else for that matter, with just five pennies. “I know,” she replied. “But with God and five pennies, I can do anything.”

Mother Teresa was referring to a great spiritual truth… when we are willing to partner with God, all things are possible. Mother Teresa was known as a woman of prayer. How else could she accomplish so much for the poor in India?

Did you know that the words pray or prayer are used over three hundred times in the Bible? In the Gospels, we find Jesus in prayer in times of need, distress, and decision. We can easily assume that Jesus began and ended each day in prayer. Our Lord Jesus knew the importance of prayer.

Make May 7th the beginning of a daily ritual of seeking God first in all things. Prayer makes a difference. How can we expect to live a life full of hope and possibility without prayer?

Have you made time to pray today? What is the content of those prayers? When was the last time you prayed with your children? Your spouse? Your grandkids? Your coworkers?

Sunday, I will finish our “I Choose” sermon series. This Sunday, the challenge is to choose the important over the urgent. We will examine the story of Jesus visiting the home of Mary and Martha. It’s a great story about focusing on what matters most in our lives.

See you Sunday! Invite Someone to worship!

Pastor John Allen

“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  (Thess. 5:16-18)
