We Are Not Alone
/Greetings in the Name of Jesus,
I just returned from the Horizon Texas Annual Conference in Wichita Falls, Texas. The conference is a three-day gathering of Methodist clergy and laity from across North Texas reaching from the Panhandle to East Texas and including Dallas and Fort Worth. I was grateful to attend alongside Pastor Jana Lunardon, Brian Reilly, Barbara Bootman, and Amy Allen as representatives of Stonebridge UMC. I am especially thankful for Brian, Barbara, and Amy, who gave generously of their time and energy to serve our church and our conference. Their presence was a meaningful reminder that the ministry of the church is strengthened by the faithful commitment of both clergy and laity.
Throughout the days together, we worshipped morning and evening, celebrated the calling of new clergy, and reflected on the work God is doing through our connection across the conference. We heard stories of ministry, supported the mission agencies that extend Christ’s love throughout our region, and prayerfully considered how we will continue nurturing faith on college campuses, in camps and retreats, and through new congregations and mission ministries.
For me, these days were both full and grace-filled. They reminded me that we do not serve Christ alone. We are part of a wider body, bound together in prayer, purpose, and hope. As United Methodists, we share in a connection that reaches far beyond our own congregation. I give thanks for the friendships, wisdom, and encouragement that sustain us in this calling. I remain deeply grateful to be a lifelong Methodist, an ordained elder, and your pastor here at Stonebridge UMC.
This Sunday, I invite you to continue with us in the sermon series called Twisted – Misused Verses of the Bible. We will turn our attention to Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” These words have shaped my life and ministry in meaningful ways, and I know they have offered hope to many others as well. Together, we will reflect on how God is at work in our lives, drawing us forward with grace, purpose, and promise.
There is even more goodness and depth in this passage than we often realize. I would love for you to join us in worship this Sunday as we listen for God’s word together, go deeper into scripture, and open our hearts to the full measure of God’s love. Whether you come every week or have been away for a while, there is a place for you here.
One more exciting note… our next home gathering is next week, June 11, at 6:30 pm! We call these Celebrate Stonebridge, and it will be an evening full of energy, gratitude, and vision as we celebrate the amazing stories of ministry already unfolding and look ahead with hope and excitement toward what God has next for our church. Come join us as we dream about the future of our church. Sign up here.
Invite someone to worship!
See You Sunday!
Pastor John Allen
