In Jesus' Name
/Greetings in the Name of Christ our Lord,
Last week we began a new sermon series called "Twisted", where we are looking carefully at some of the most often misunderstood passages in Scripture. This past Sunday we focused on prayer, especially Jesus’ words in John 14:12–14: “Ask anything in my name, and I will do it.” I have been grateful for the many conversations that followed, because they remind me that God’s people genuinely want to pray in a way that honors Him. Together, we considered the context of Jesus’ promise, what the whole of Scripture teaches about prayer, and how we can come before the Father with humble, trusting hearts.
On Sunday, I shared a simple way to pray in Jesus’ name—one that helps us slow down, seek His heart, and rest in what He is truly saying to His disciples. Several of you asked if I could send a copy of that prayer, and I am glad to do so. My hope is that it serves you this week as a gentle guide, helping you draw near to God with confidence, humility, and trust.
How do we pray in Jesus' Name:
Re-center on God’s glory: Father may this bring honor to you. Shape my desires around your heart.
Be honest about motives: Search me, O God. Purify what I am asking.
Ask with faith: You can, God. You are good. I trust you.
Persevere together: Invite others to carry the burdens of your heart; the church is a praying family.
Watch for God’s answers: the strength to endure, the changed heart, the open door we did not expect.
This week, I will be preaching on Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:1–5, where He says, “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.” Together, we will look carefully at this passage in its context and ask the Lord to teach us what it means to walk with truth, humility, and grace in our relationships. Jesus lovingly calls His followers to examine their own hearts before focusing on the faults of others, and that invitation is for all of us. As we gather, we will consider how God would have us treat one another in difficult moments—with wisdom, compassion, and hearts that reflect Christ.
As the Lord gives opportunity, I want to encourage you to invite someone to worship with us this Sunday. Share with them, in your own simple way, what God is doing in your life and among our church family at Stonebridge. These are exciting days in the life of our church, and we are thankful to see the Lord at work - making a difference in many lives.
See You Sunday!
Pastor John Allen
