30th Anniversary Celebration
/Greetings in the Name of Christ,

Labor Day was originally set aside in 1894 by President Grover Cleveland as a recognition of workers and their achievements. Despite the public recognition for workers, it originated during one of American labor history’s most dismal chapters. In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks to eke out a basic living. Despite restrictions in some states, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories, and mines across the country earning a fraction of their adult counterparts’ wages.
We have come a long way since 1894 with the establishment of fair wages, safer working conditions, and protection for our young. In many ways, the original intent of Labor Day has been lost; becoming a strange celebration without rituals, except for shopping and barbecuing. For most people, it simply marks the last weekend of summer.
Let us never forget, for it is important to remember the struggles, the achievements, and the determination of those who built the great institutions of our society. These memories instill wisdom, inspire gratitude, and create new visions for the future.
This is why we are putting so much energy into the 30th Anniversary of Stonebridge UMC, September 21st. The Anniversary team has planned an awesome combined worship service at 10:00 am where we will Remember Our Roots, Empower the Present, and Imagine the Future. We will celebrate through special music, video testimonies, and I will be preaching on Hebrews 11 – Answering God’s Call Into the Future.
Following the worship service, we will continue our celebration by enjoying a catered lunch in the Robertson Activity Center at 11:30 am. We will be hearing from a few of our previous pastors and enjoying a video presentation of pictures from the past.
This is going to be one of the great days in the life and history of Stonebridge UMC. Make your reservation for lunch at Stonebridge UMC: Stonebridge UMC 30th Anniversary Celebration Lunch.
This Sunday I will be preaching on forgiveness. A sermon I am calling, What if I Can’t Forgive? Can I Still Be a Christian?
It is going to be a great day! See you in worship! Invite someone to join you for worship!
