Now is the Time
/Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ,
Our first Lenten dinner, studies, and activities for children and youth were awesome. The food was delicious. The spirit of those in attendance was remarkable. People smiling, laughing, sharing, and having fun together. There was literally an audible “buzz” from the kitchen to Celebration Hall. Sign up now for next Wednesday’s dinner here.
Now is the time to invite someone to worship or a small group. Now is the time to pray for our church and its impact on the community around us. Now is the time to invest ourselves in the great things God is doing at Stonebridge UMC.
As God’s people, we must remember that we are agents of God’s possibilities. It's not enough to play it safe, reaching for goals within our grasp. We should attempt things so great for the glory of God that the credit can only be given to God.
As the Apostle Paul reminds us...
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
Jesus said, "With God, all things are possible." For me, there are three things I know for sure concerning God’s work through the church.
First, everything we do starts with prayer. Doing God’s work is not easy. Achieving the impossible typically takes great effort. Prayer is an essential part of seeking the supernatural purpose of God in this world. Let us turn our hearts and minds to what God would have us to do in this community and world.
Second, doing God’s work takes planning and time. Reaching worthwhile goals requires a long-term investment of time. It is our job to sow the seeds and let the Holy Spirit bring in the harvest of hearts committed to Christ’s work.
Third, we are not alone in our work. God is with us. Doing God’s work comes with challenges. Personal sacrifice is part of the process. God always honors what we give up to achieve God’s purpose in this world. There is no greater purpose in life than to be partners with Christ in ministry. This is where the impossible becomes possible.
It may not be easy, instantaneous, or painless, but for those willing to step out in faith, for those bold enough to trust God to do the impossible, the reward is greater than the investment.
Invite someone to worship this Sunday. It is going to be glorious!
