Thank You, Veterans!
/Greetings in the Name of our Lord,
Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
November 11th is a special day in the life of our beloved country. For the past 105 years, we have taken this day to remember and give thanks for those who have served our country. I am sincerely grateful for your service and sacrifice. Thank you for your service! I'm certain it comes with many sacrifices. Words are not enough to express the gratitude I hold in my heart for our veterans.
World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”
On November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson instituted the first Armistice Day in recognition of the end of the Great War. In 1954, congress expanded this day to recognize all veterans who have served our country.
Please join me today, in giving thanks for all those who have served our country to keep us free. Because of the sacrifice of so many, we continue to be a beacon of peace, prosperity and freedom for the world.
